Mercury High Performance Sterndrives in our Donzi and Baja Inventory


Found in the Donzi 38ZRC, the 860 was designed, developed and manufactured in-house at Mercury Racing, the naturally aspirated, 9.0 liter 860 sterndrive engine features Mercury Racing’s exclusive aluminum four-valve cylinder heads and dual overhead camshaft valve train.  This proven valve train, which greatly enhances engine performance and durability over a standard two-valve design, enables the engine to produce 860 horsepower at 6800 rpm on 89 octane (Rec 90) pump fuel. The engine’s 6300-6800 rpm operating range offers unsurpassed acceleration for its power rating. 
The 860 is Mercury Racing’s first QC4v engine to feature a wet sump oil system. The Mercury Racing-designed oil pan features dedicated baffling and a custom windage tray. That, combined with an engine mounted oil pump, keeps oil away from the crankshaft, "virtually eliminating parasitic power loss." Rigging and installation is also facilitated by not having a remote-mounted oil sump, according to the release. Exclusive to the 860, the engine's new camshafts feature custom lobes for greater valve lift. This design feature, combined with high-velocity cylinder head intake ports, provides maximum air flow to the combustion chamber. New pistons, also designed exclusively for the naturally aspirated engine, respond to the fuel/air charge with an 9.75:1 compression ratio.



Found in the Baja 36 Outlaw, The Mercury Racing 520 is the high preformance sterndrive for the masses. The naturally aspirated engine provides recreational boaters a cost effective power option that fits nicely, in both value and performance, between the MerCruiser® 8.2L MAG HO and Mercury Racing’s 525 EFI. This sterndrive features Digital Throttle & Shift and is backed by an unprecedented two-year factory warranty. The 520 shares the same CNC machined cylinder block used on its MAG HO cousin and Mercury Racing’s 502 cubic-inch-based sterndrive family. Mercury Racing enhanced the 520’s power and torque by increasing the cylinder bore size for an additional 21 cubic inches of displacement to 523-C.I.D. (8.6 L). The larger displacement, combined with Mercury Racing cylinder heads, multiport fuel injection and an electronic throttle body results in nearly 100 additional horsepower over the 430 h.p. MAG HO. All of this power comes from 87 posted octane (R+M)/2, (91 RON) global pump gas. Found in the Donzi 22 Classic, the Mercury 8.2L MAG High Output (HO), engineered in collaboration with Mercury Racing, provides the superior big block fuel efficiency and performance boaters are accustomed to. HIgh performance with sensational acceleration, immediate planing and superior mid-range throttle response delivered by the 8.2L V8 powerhouse. Exciting performance and improved fuel efficiency – while protecting the environment – with MerCruiser's Emissions Control Technology. Smooth operation and unsurpassed responsiveness with Digital Throttle & Shift system. Easily check or add lubricant from inside the boat with the engine-mounted drive lube monitor. Draining water is a snap with MerCruiser's standard single-point air-actuated water drain system. Oil changes are cleaner, quicker and simpler via convenient top-mounted remote oil filter and threaded dipstick tube. Checking fluid levels is simple and straightforward using color-coded service points. The 8.2L runs on less-expensive and easy-to-find 87 octane fuel.
